  • Avoid overexposed or underexposed faces.
  • Ask users to face the light source (e.g. window or ring light).

2. Backgrounds

  • Choose neutral, uncluttered backgrounds.
  • Avoid bright patterns, backlit windows, or mirrors behind the user.

3. Provide clear guidance and instructions to users 

  • Provide simple, localized instructions (text and/or voice).

    Example: "Hold the phone at eye level. Look straight. Blink naturally."

  • Show a real-time face bounding box or guide overlay.
  • Require the face to be fully visible, well-centered, and not cut off.
  • Ask users to remove masks, sunglasses, or hats.
  • Avoid obstructions like hair covering eyes.
