In an era dominated by digital advancements, the utilization of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology has become increasingly crucial for various applications. This holds particularly true for the extraction of information from identity cards, such as the Indonesian Kartu Tanda Penduduk (KTP). The accuracy and efficiency of OCR in handling KTP data play a pivotal role in diverse fields, from streamlined administrative processes to enhanced security measures. In this article, we delve into the essential requirements for achieving improved results in OCR processing of KTP, shedding light on the key factors that contribute to the effectiveness of this technology and its broader implications. Understanding and optimizing these requirements are integral steps towards harnessing the full potential of OCR for enhanced data extraction and utilization.
Image Quality Requirements
- The services check and extract the necessary information from the uploaded images, hence please ensure the uploaded images satisfy the following criteria:
- Is in one of the following image formats: PNG / JPG / JPEG
- Below 2 MB file size
- Minimum resolution of 256 x 256
- Maximum resolution of 4096 x 4096
- The image size may change depending on different service
- For OCR services please also ensure that the uploaded images satisfy the following criteria:
- The ID Card’s ratio in the uploaded photo is not so small that the words in the ID Card are unreadable
- ID Card’s orientation is in a Vertical or Horizontal position and NOT heavily tilted (around 45 degrees)
- Nothing is covering up the words in the ID Card (ex: Light Spot, Dirt, Ink, Shadow, etc)
- Have a clean background (No words or other pictures in the background)
Sample Error :
"responseCode":"OCR_NO_RESULT"
If we receive a response message with the code 'message': 'OCR check failed, unable to find any KTP field in the uploaded picture,' it indicates an issue when the customer uploads the KTP file. In the example below, the customer has attached the wrong picture, where no KTP information is visible. This suggests an error in the uploaded file, leading to the OCR check failure.
Concerning this matter and to avoid encountering the OCR_NO_RESULT error in the future, it's essential to ensure that the uploaded KTP is clear and free from any dirt or blurriness. Taking high-quality, well-focused pictures of the KTP, with legible text in each field, will significantly improve the OCR recognition process and minimize the likelihood of errors.
